All I know is that I don't know.
What I can say is that my dad "did everything right" and still met the same fate as the Scottish biker. Same age & everything; only difference is that he dropped dead Jim Fixx-style after a run and not in his sleep.
Meanwhile, my matrnal grandmother lived to be 97 and chain smoked all but the last 2 years of that.
The answer likely lies somewhere in between. I guess we'll see.
In the meantime, I could use a LOT more sleep, and a few more peanut butter cups. And the second cigarettes become even nomially less lethal, I'll probably start again.
